I met Kristine over a year ago now. She was politely stalking my photography page (she admits this) and messaged me to meet me sometime to chat over a cup of coffee. She came over and we sat in my living room for a few hours talking about all sorts of things (not just photography related). She is a photographer herself and it was nice to meet someone else in the industry. You can check out her work, here.

Kristine contacted me several months ago about photographing Kevin’s homecoming. I was honored! Since booking, and in true military fashion, the date changed several times. It changed 3 times in the week leading up to the homecoming. I quite counting after 5 date changes. Luckily, I was still available the final arrival date! We thought the drama of all the schedule changes were over by the time the day came. We could not have been more wrong. Kristine and I decided to meet at the airport 30 minutes before Kevin’s flight was due. I got there a little earlier and walked up to the front. Long story short, their flight came in an hour early!!! Kristine wasn’t even there yet. Typically for homecomings, I like to get there and photograph the scene, the anticipation, the nerves, the smiles and the tears before their loved one arrives. However, this ended up being A LOT different. There was no time to go through security, so Kristine and I waited outside. Maybe 5 minutes after Kristine arrived, Kevin came out. It was the FASTEST homecoming I have ever photographed. Looking back through my time stamp, start to finish was 12 minutes!

Even though the day didn’t go as planned, it didn’t matter once Kristine saw Kevin for the first time in 8 months! She started crying, so then I started crying. I was a hot mess trying to hold it together. I am so incredibly happy to see my friend reunited with the love of her life, her sailor. Welcome home, Kevin!

P.S. I made Kristine try on that dress a couple of weeks before while we were at the mall looking for her homecoming outfit. Isn’t she so cute!? Such a fun, patriotic dress for the occasion. She looked great!
